Hot bachelor named

Cosmopolitan magazine's 2005 cross-country search for the hottest bachelors in America has ended with the selection of Jamie Tamashiro as Hawaii's Cosmo Bachelor. He'll be featured in the Cosmopolitan 2005 November issue.

Tamashiro will be photographed by Seiji (Mike Mabuni), who was also named one of the magazine's Cosmopolitan Bachelors in 2000.

Seiji, who was working as a model when he was named Hawaii's Cosmo hunk, is now an internationally published fashion photographer specializing in fashion and celebrity photography. His work has appeared in fashion and modeling publications and on celebrity television shows.

Sunset on the Beach

Live music from the Hawaii International Jazz Festival, fun family activities, product samples from Mauna Loa, a vintage aloha attire contest with prizes from Hilo Hattie, lots of ono food and movies are good reasons to head for the beach Saturday and Sunday. All will be part of Hawaiian Telcom's Sunset on the Beach at Queen's Surf Beach in Waikiki.

Before heading out the door, grab your tutu's sarong or cellophane skirt or your vintage aloha shirt for a stage-side "Best Vintage Aloha Look" contest at 6:30 p.m. Saturday. First prize will be a $100 Hilo Hattie gift certificate and a Honolulu Centennial T-shirt. Second- and third-place winners will receive a $50 Hilo Hattie gift certificate and Honolulu Centennial T-shirt.

On both days, food booths open at 4 p.m., with live entertainment by the Hawaii International Jazz Festival All Star Big Band starting at 5:30 p.m., followed by a movie at sunset, around 7:30 p.m.

Saturday's film is the 1959 MGM classic "Some Like It Hot," starring Marilyn Monroe, Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon.

Sunday's film is "The Day After Tomorrow," about a paleoclimatologist (Dennis Quaid) who tries to save the world from the chilling effects of global warming while also trying to save his son, Sam (Jake Gyllenhaal).

For more information, call the Waikiki Improvement Association at 923-1094.

The next "Sunset" weekend will be July 30 and 31.
