E&0 adds a
dash of ‘Spice’

Leave it to Justin Yoshino to get the management of E&O Trading Company on board with the idea of hosting a weekly party.

At first, it seemed they had lost interest in the concept. A trial run in April left a bad impression that had me thinking it would be almost impossible for an outside promoter to get back inside the Ward Centre restaurant.

But here comes Yoshino's Partymasters Hawaii with an attractive Friday option for both pau hana and late night fun. "Spice Lounge" is fashioned after San Francisco's sophisticated supper club scene, with DJ Troy Michael mixing up old school hits with today's hottest tracks. Come early, since there's no cover from 5:30 until 10 p.m. and drink specials in effect until 2 a.m. Yoshino also asks that guests wear red to the party's debut tomorrow.

I just hope the restaurant's Rum Jungle remains the featured happy hour elixir on Fridays. That drink is pure nirvana ...

DON'T WANT to wait until tomorrow for a raging party? Head to Pipeline Cafe tonight for a "Summer Surf Bash" with Volcom and Da Hui.

Hosted by Island 98.5 afternoon jock Makani, the 18-and-over event features live entertainment by Go Jimmy Go, Typical Hawaiians and B.E.T. Reggae fans will want to be there for sets by O-Shen and Sashamon.

Doors open at 9 p.m. tonight, and you can expect a cover charge in the $10 to $15 range. Call 589-1999 ...

AFTER A few weeks of retooling, it looks like the O Lounge is back to full blast on Kapiolani Boulevard. Saturdays are looking better every week, and Platinum Public just introduced a new twist to its Friday night party.

Called "Be Social Fridays," the point is to meet new people and enjoy cheap drinks. Men and women receive numbered tickets upon entry, and are asked to search for the person with a matching number. Once they find the other person, the next step is to head for the bar and redeem the matching tickets for 25-cent drinks. It's a pretty nifty way to meet the opposite sex, and Jimmy Taco is still there dropping dope beats if you strike out ...

OTHER STUFF worth checking out this weekend: Local rockers Analog are back from Japan, where they performed for U.S. troops. They'll be at Tropics in Kailua tomorrow night for a "Toga Party," hosted by Star 101.9's Maleko ... Saturday brings another metal show to Pink Cadillac. Crucible, Dagra, The Miltons and Shadows of Sanctity are signed to play this all-ages show that starts at 6 p.m. ... And if you want to support local comedy, check out "Comedy Kanikapila 4" at Kapono's on Saturday. Kutmaster Spaz will host, with music by Toa and stand-up by Kaleo Pilanca, Da Hawaiian Guy from Molokai and Mo Dixon. Tickets are $20; call 429-8255 ...
