Irons rules in Mr. Price Pro surf contest

Bruce Irons of Kauai kept the Mr. Price Pro title in the family yesterday.

Irons defeated Brazil's Marcondes Rocha in the Mr. Price Pro surf contest final at Durban's North Beach in South Africa.

Irons' brother, Andy Irons, won the event last year. Andy Irons is the reigning three-time world champion.

Bruce Irons won $15,000 for his victory in the Association of Surfing Professionals' World Qualifying Series event.

Metzger wins third AVP title this season

Punahou graduate Stein Metzger teamed with Jake Gibb to capture the men's championship at the AVP Belmar Open yesterday in Belmar, N.J.

The second-seeded team of Metzger and Gibb defeated third-seeded Matt Fuerbringer and Casey Jennings 21-18, 21-14 to claim the $20,000 first prize and their third title of the season. Metzger had 23 kills in the win.
