Testament to
rock Pipeline

Metal fans, take note -- Testament is coming to Honolulu next month as part of its 2005 reunion tour.

Almost 20 years after the band's debut album, "The Legacy," was released, original members Chuck Billy, Eric Peterson, Alex Skolnick and Greg Christian will be joined by alumni drummer Johnny Tempesta on Aug. 8 at Pipeline Cafe. They played in California for the first time in 13 years last weekend alongside Judas Priest, and headline a "Thrash Against Cancer" benefit concert in San Francisco Saturday.

Following a European jaunt to Italy and Finland next weekend, the guys will take a little time off before the Honolulu show, then travel to Japan. Tickets for next month's 18-and-over concert are on sale for $18 each, and are online at www.ticketswest.com. Local bands Crucible and Amplified are scheduled to open ...

IN OTHER concert news, honorary local boy Wayne Brady (his wife is from Hawaii) is returning for a show at the Blaisdell Concert Hall on Aug. 27 ... It doesn't look like Weezer will be playing here, as I mentioned last month ... But there's still a chance the Backstreet Boys will perform on New Year's Eve. Representatives for Jasmine Trias confirm there have been talks to have her open for them at an as-yet-undisclosed location, but "these arrangements are not yet finalized" ... Check back here on Tuesday for details about a concert next month featuring Public Enemy ...

DIDN'T GET the chance to check out Next Door when the Cinema Paradise Film Festival was going on? Don't worry, there's another reason to check out one of Chinatown's newest businesses this weekend.

"The Happening" goes down tomorrow night at the nightspot, with DJs Joy and MattRatt spinning the tunes. There will also be a fashion show featuring the creations of Michele Lau, and live entertainment by The Goners and Tiny Believers. Doors open at 10 p.m., with the fashion show taking place around 11:30 ...

MUCH respect to Tihati Productions and Impact Events for helping to keep local music alive in Waikiki. Besides the new "Chemistry Lounge" on Fridays at the Esprit Lounge, the nightclub in the Sheraton Waikiki also features various live bands on Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday evenings.

Tonight, Beyond the Groove will perform from 8 p.m. to midnight, with Hard-2-Oppose on stage Saturday starting at 9:30 p.m. Pacific Jamm and Edgewater are next week's featured bands.

And to help make it easier for kama'aina to enjoy the music, there's no cover on weeknights and it's just $5 to get in on Saturdays. And you don't have to pay for parking! Call 931-8472 ...
