flavors sauce

This dish from Antonio's New York Pizzeria was prepared on "Hawaii's Kitchen" Sunday. The show airs at 5:30 p.m. on KHON/Fox.

Pasta Arrabiatta

1 pound short pasta (ziti, gemelli, penne)
3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
4 garlic cloves, chopped
1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes, or to taste
1 small onion, diced
2 to 3 cups marinara sauce
1/4 cup julienned basil
1/2 pint cream
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Cook pasta in large pot of boiling water until al dente.

In medium pan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add garlic and pepper flakes. Stir to release flavors. Add onions. Cook until translucent. Add marinara sauce. Bring to light boil. Add basil and stir. Add cream and Parmesan cheese. Thoroughly stir mixture. Return to light boil and cook until slightly thickened. Remove from heat.

Drain pasta and transfer to large bowl. Toss with sauce. Serve with more Parmesan cheese.
