Vice chairman of DNC
to speak at isle events

A California congressman will join Hawaii Democrats in a series of events this week, speaking on Social Security, labor and medical insurance issues.

Rep. Mike Honda, newly elected vice chairman of the Democratic National Committee, will make his first appearance at Kailua's Fourth of July parade.

Tomorrow night, he will speak at an Oahu Democratic Party reception at the Japanese Cultural Center, which will also include Hawaii congressmen Neil Abercrombie and Ed Case.

A fund-raiser for the Democratic Party, at which Honda will also speak, is scheduled for Wednesday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the E & O Trading Co. at Ward Center.

Honda is set to be at a Hawaii County Democratic Party picnic today on the Big Island.

He will also make an appearance tomorrow on Maui at the Maui County Democratic Party Luncheon and Wednesday on Kauai for a luncheon at Kauai Lagoons restaurant.

Honda is the first Asian American to be elected vice chairman of the Democratic National Committee. He is also chairman of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus.
