At the Academy

The 2005 Academy Awards-nominated short films will be part of the July film lineup at the Honolulu Academy of Arts Doris Duke Theatre. Tickets are $5 to $7. Call 532-8768 for more information.

Here is the schedule:

» "Holy Girl (La Nina Santa)" (2004): A young girl saves the soul of a doctor. Produced by Pedro Almodóvar and nominated for the top prize at Cannes 2004. In Spanish with subtitles. At 1, 4 and 7:30 p.m. today and tomorrow.

» "Eros" (2004): Three-part anthology film about eroticism and desire. Directed by Wong Kar Wai, Steven Soderbergh and Michelangelo Antonioni. In Mandarin, English and Italian with subtitles. At 1 and 7:30 p.m. Tuesday to July 10, and 4 p.m. Friday to July 10.

» "Apres Vous" (2003): A romantic comedy about a good Samaritan, a hopeless romantic and the beautiful woman who comes between them. In French with subtitles. At 7:30 p.m. July 11 to 15, 1 p.m. July 12 to 15 and 4 p.m. July 15.

» "Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room" (2005): The inside story of one of history's greatest business scandals. At 1 and 7:30 p.m. July 16, 19, 20 and 21; and 7:30 p.m. July 18.

» 2005 Academy Award-nominated short films: Four animated and four live-action short films that were nominated this year but did not win an Oscar. At 1, 4 and 7:30 p.m. July 22 to 24; 7:30 p.m. July 25 to 27; and 1 p.m. July 26 and 27.

» "Kontroll" (2004): A handsome young hero, a mysterious maiden and a killer race against time led this film to win the 23rd Prix de la Jeunes at the 2004 Cannes Film Festival. This was Hungary's most successful domestic film in 2003. In Hungarian with subtitles. At 1 and 7:30 p.m. July 28 to 31, 4 p.m. July 29 to 31, 7:30 p.m. Aug. 1 and 1 p.m. Aug. 2.

Next month's highlight is a Korean Film Festival featuring 11 days of award-winning films.
