Music shows to benefit religious programs

The music of several cultures will be presented in fund-raising concerts planned by local religious organizations.

» Sunita Leetikul, a popular artist from Thailand, will sing at 8 p.m. tomorrow at the Golden Palace Seafood Restaurant at 111 N. King St. Tickets at $15 will be available at the door. The concert will benefit the Thai Buddhist temple in Pearl City, Wat Buddhajakramongkolvararam. Call Mickie Carriker, 218-8803.

» A show at the Okinawan Peace Memorial Hall in Kalihi will feature comedian Frank De Lima, slack-key artist Ozzie Kotani and contemporary Hawaiian music by Na Ohana E Ho'onani. Music will be performed by Paranku Club of Hawaii, Norman Kaneshiro and Pete Shimazaki Doktor on sansin, taiko drums by Sasakudaiko Ryukyu Yuihana and classical dance by Ryusei Honryu Yanagi No Kai Hawaii Shibu.

The show at 1731 N. School St. will be from 9 to 11:30 a.m. July 10. Tickets are $7, with children under 12 admitted free. For reservations, call 845-3422. The event benefits youth programs of Jikoen Hongwanji Mission.

Workshop to focus on faith-based grants

The federal government will offer training for churches and other organizations that seek financial backing for faith-based or community projects.

The free workshop on how to prepare a grant application will be presented Aug. 4-5 at Honolulu Community College. It is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and will be led by Donnetta McAdoo from HUD's Center for Faith-Based & Community Initiatives.
