Pink Ladies help
Wie carry LPGA

SOMEDAY -- and who knows, the way things are going it could even be someday soon -- Michelle Wie is going to win.

She may need some heavy seasoning, but her talent is right there when it comes to the LPGA Tour.

And one of these days she's going to win one of these things.

But so is Morgan Pressell.

And so is Brittany Lang.

And Paula Creamer -- now officially the reigning Teen Queen, with a pro win already under her belt -- is going to do it again. She's got a few more wins in her, you'd better believe that.

And suddenly, I'm excited about the LPGA Tour.

All we've heard about is Michelle, Michelle, Michelle, but now we look around and there they all are, three more of her, these cocky teenagers, all strutting around like Rizzo in "Grease."

The Pink Ladies.

Wie might be the headliner, but it's no longer a solo show. They're all coming up together, it looks like they're all going to be good together. We hope they're all going to be battling each other for years to come.

That's the best part -- that there's not just one promising young phenom, but several of them, all emerging at once.

(Which begs the question -- is this an all-time great group of transcendent young talent, or is women's golf in such a down period that a bunch of youngsters can just walk in and finish in the top five before they're even old enough to cash the checks?)

So, yes, I'm actually excited about the LPGA Tour. The bigger challenge -- amid all this talk about playing in the Masters and competing on the men's tour -- might be getting Wie excited about it.

She should be. How could you not be? She can't miss out on a chance like this.

These young ladies certainly look like they could turn into the kind of Arnie-Jack, Frazier-Ali, Serena-Her own fashion sense, Pepsi-Coke epic competitors you want to measure yourself against.

You can almost -- almost -- understand why a few writers seemed to take it personally that the new era had to wait at least another week. Some in the media seemed genuinely upset that Birdie Kim had the gall to win last week's U.S. Open with a miracle shot. One guy even wrote that the USGA and its greenskeepers should be proud for creating a course that made little girls cry (when, presumably, it would have been a lot cooler had Michelle won).

Ouch.

But you can see what they mean. Kim's birdie was a miracle, because Pressell was charging. She was going to win it, you could tell. I love the way she plays. She's a competitor. She's just tough.

She was going to win it, you just knew.

And there's a rivalry brewing. You could tell by the way some Wie fans reacted to Pressell's very presence. I've already heard a few Hawaii people grumble that Pressell is too cocky (for daring to say she wanted to win the tournament) -- why can't she be humble like Michelle?

(Pausing.)

(Still pausing.)

(Not quite sure what to say to that one.)

(Wait for it ...)

OK.

Or complaining that Pressell threw a tantrum on the course, when she showed emotion as her chance to win dropped with that wedge shot from the sand. As if Wie had never rolled her eyes or stomped a foot.

But that's the thing about rivalries. It's all relative and everything's black and white -- what you see depends on which side you're on.

I'm excited about these youngsters, about this upcoming talent, about all these personalities just starting to hit. Wie and three more just like her, here they come.

This could be Muhammad Ali against Joe Frazier against George Foreman against Ken Norton. This could be Mount Rushmore every week.

The Pink Ladies are coming. And when they get here, it's going to be fun.
