Mugging suspect: Each of his victims was attacked from behind and their purse or wallet stolen

All the attacks occurred between April 9 and June 2 during different times of the day and involved the suspect hitting his victims with either a rock or brick.

In three of the attacks, victims reported seeing the suspect flee on a bicycle. In the other attacks he fled on foot.

Police said the first incident happened on April 9 and involved a 52-year-old man who said he was standing outside his vehicle at about 7:50 p.m. along Vineyard Boulevard near Queen Emma Street when he noticed a man passing by on a bicycle. He told police he was then hit on the head with a brick.

Police said the victim stumbled into his car and lost consciousness. When he awoke he found the brick in his car and some of his property missing.

On April 12 a 50-year-old woman and her boyfriend were walking along a sidewalk on Makaloa Street near the Keeaumoku Street Wal-Mart between 3:35 and 4 a.m. when the suspect attacked the boyfriend, knocking him unconscious, and took the woman's belongings, police said.

The next attack came on May 8 at 5 a.m. and involved a 51-year-old woman who said she had been sleeping in her car at Young and Keeaumoku streets with her driver's side window down when someone hit her with a rock and took her purse.

The fourth victim, a 56-year-old man, told police he was walking home from work near the Pawaa neighborhood park in the 1400 block of Young Street, going in the Diamond Head direction, at about 6 a.m. on May 19. He said someone struck him from behind with a hard object and he passed out. When he awoke he found his wallet missing.

The last two muggings also occurred near the same park, with one at 9:15 p.m. on May 21 and the other at 2:30 a.m. on June 2. Both of those assaults involved female victims.

In each case, police said the victims were attacked from behind and their purse or wallet stolen. The victims were taken for treatment at a hospital for head injuries and released.

Investigators note that the male victims were knocked unconscious, while the female victims were not hit as hard.

"It looks like he's hitting the males enough not to get chased, and the females he's hitting hard enough just to knock them down and take their purses," said CrimeStoppers Coordinator Sgt. Kim Capllonch.

The suspect is described as between 30 to 40 years old, 180 to 200 pounds, with short, curly, black hair and a medium build.

Anyone with information is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 955-8300.
