Fill a plate for charity

Time to loosen that belt. Taste of Honolulu takes place on the grounds of the Honolulu Civic Center from Friday through Sunday, offering countless opportunities to stuff your face.

The annual fund-raiser for Easter Seals Hawaii brings out two dozen Oahu restaurants, all trading their specialties for scrip.

Hours are 5 to 10 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $3; children and seniors free. Military and their families will be admitted free before 3 p.m. on the weekend.

Serious wine drinkers can purchase a $15 Wine Tasting Tour, which includes six 2-ounce tastings.

You may need to sit while you eat, so choose a spot in front of one of two stages, which will offer constant entertainment.

Highlights for kids: Look for Darth Vader storming around the grounds from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday. Spider-Man will be spinning his web from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday on the Family Stage. A kids' talent competition follows from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday.

For bigger kids: Miss Hawaii 2005 Malika Dudley competes against Miss Hawaii-USA Radasha Ho'ohuli in a cook-off at 7 p.m. Friday. Three more cook-offs take place on Saturday: Bank of Hawaii Vice Chairman Peter Ho vs. Central Pacific Bank President and Chief Operating Officer Neal Kanda, 1 p.m.; Assistant Fire Chief Elvin Tomita vs. Assistant Police Chief Bryan Wauke, 2:30 p.m.; and Comedian Mel Cabang vs. City Prosecutor Peter Carlisle, 5:30 p.m. Then, on Sunday, from 2 to 3 p.m., Clear Channel sponsors a "Taste Idol" competition.
