» Top batters last week were Brian Finegan (Hawaii), who hit .517, going 15-for-28 with two doubles, a homer and six runs batted in, and Kaligo Oligo (Waimea, Hawaii-Hilo), who was 11-for-29 (.379) with a double and his first homer of the season.
» Tim Montgomery (UH), who had been in extended spring training recovering from surgery to his right shoulder to fix a torn labrum, returned to action last week with the Cleveland Indians' Class A team, the Lake County Captains (East Lake, Ohio) in the South Atlantic League.
» Duke Sardinha (Kamehameha, Pepperdine), also in extended spring training recovering from surgery to his right wrist, was back in action last week with the Colorado Rockies' Class A team, the Asheville (N.C.) Tourists, also in the South Atlantic League.
» Rodney Choy Foo (Kailua), also in extended spring training recovering from a stress fracture in his left foot, has been assigned to the Cleveland Indians' Class A team, the Kinston (N.C.) Indians, in the Carolina League.
» Kurt Suzuki (Baldwin, Cal State Fullerton) has the best walk-to-strikeout ratio (36-35) among Hawaii's pros. Kila Ka'aihue (Iolani) is next at 44-49, followed by Shane Victorino (St. Anthony at 27-34 and Benny Agbayani (Saint Louis, Hawaii Pacific) at 20-32.
» Chris George (UH) signed with the San Diego Surf Dawgs of the independent Golden Baseball League on June 14. The right-hander was released by the San Francisco Giants during spring training. In his first outing for the Surf Dawgs, he pitched two hitless innings, striking out four and walking no one.
» Lance Rankin (Kaiser, Northern Colorado) was re-signed June 4 by Coastal Bend. The catcher had been released May 22 by the Aviators.
