Quarterback Club to salute Murphy

An all-star salute to longtime University of Hawaii supporter Don Murphy is set for tomorrow at the weekly meeting of the Honolulu Quarterback Club.

Confirmed guests include UH athletic director Herman Frazier, Hawaii coaches June Jones, Bob Nash (subbing for Riley Wallace), Jim Bolla, Mike Wilton and Bob Coolen and KKEA radio sports announcers Don Robbs and Bobby Curran.

Murphy has been an enthusiastic donor and fund-raiser for UH athletics, and has served in leadership positions in the Na Koa and Ahahui Koa Anuenue (AKA) booster clubs. He is the incoming AKA president.

The program will start at noon following an 11:30 a.m. luncheon at the Pagoda Hotel Ballroom. The public is invited.

All Stars bury Island Movers

Jon Torres belted a three-run homer in the third inning to help the Hawaii All Stars hand the Island Movers their first loss in a 10-2 rout yesterday at Les Murakami Stadium.

Torres, first baseman Keahi Kapana and outfielder Kaohi Downing all went 3-for-5 as the All Stars collected 15 hits off four Island Mover pitchers.

The All Stars started the scoring right away, going up 3-0 in the first inning. Torres ended with five RBIs, including an RBI double in the first and RBI single in the fifth.

Blaine Muraoka got the five-hit, complete-game win, striking out three while walking one. Island Movers starter Michael Lamb of Oral Roberts picked up the loss, giving up five hits and six earned runs in two innings of work.

Tokai to host international judo camp

Hawaii Tokai International College is hosting its fourth annual International Summer Judo Camp from Monday, July 25 through Sunday, July 31 at the Tokai University Pacific Center.

The camp is open to all judo athletes and features instructors and student from the U.S. mainland, Switzerland, Hawaii, Guam, Canada, Asia and Japan.

Cost for the camp, which includes transportation to off-campus activities, is $70, while cost of the clinic and lectures only is $30. Deadline for application is July 15. For more information, contact Kazuhiro Sonoda at 983-4106, or Derrick Kerr at 983-4187.
