Nuuanu fair focuses on health and wellness

The Tenrikyo Hawaii Mission is hosting a health and wellness fair today, featuring more than 25 exhibits from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at its headquarters, 2920 Pali Highway.

The mission is located between Oahu Country Club and Nuuanu Hale Nursing Home. The Tenrikyo Health and Joyous Life Expo -- "Nurturing Others, Nurturing Ourselves" -- will be held in tents in the parking lot area. The event is being sponsored by the Tenrikyo Hawaii Women's and Young Men's Associations.

Park at the Tenri Cultural Center at 2236 Nuuanu Ave. Shuttle service will be available from 6:30 to 9:30 a.m. and from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m.

The exhibits include massage therapies, health care screening, beauty and health care products, home safety products, health information and nutritional supplements. There will be free demonstrations and sample products that promote health and wellness.

Witnesses' convention focuses on obedience

The three-day 2005 "Godly Obedience" District Convention of Jehovah's Witnesses continues until tomorrow at the Assembly Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Mililani.

The convention is free and open to the public. Thousands of followers from Hawaii Kai to Makaha are expected to attend.

The keynote address is entitled "Follow the Model in Your Obedience to God." The program will focus on observing Christ's teachings for a happier, more unified family. Sessions will begin at 9:30 a.m.

The program will include a baptism ceremony, a dramatic presentation for young people and a special discourse tomorrow.

The program will be repeated the following eight weekends for those who are interested from other areas, and will include foreign language sessions.

3 Bible study courses offered this summer

The Bible Institute of Hawaii is offering a Summer Quarter four-week course July 5-28.

Three different subjects will be offered at Kalihi Union Church, Community Church of Honolulu in Nuuanu and Makiki Christian Church, for $35 a course. Discounts of $5 will be given to students, military members, senior citizens, groups of threes and early registrants whose applications are postmarked by Friday.

The three subjects include:

» "Introducing the Real Jesus to Your Friends," at Kalihi Union: Bring a friend, who can attend for free, to this class for new believers. A $5 workbook fee applies. Learn how to lead and participate in evangelistic Bible studies.

» "Teaching the Word of God," at Community Church (20-student maximum): Designed for pastors, teachers or anyone who is actively serving in ministry or is being called to teach in the church, this hands-on seminar will give practical tools to evaluate and prepare lessons to maximize your impact while effectively ministering in the Bible.

» "Prayer that Transforms," at Makiki Christian: Have you ever wanted to pray but didn't know how to begin? Ever want to minister in prayer in a time of crisis? A few pastors and a counsel will give lead discussions and give practical information.

New Hope offers free meal and fellowship

New Hope Windward Christian Fellowship will provide a free meal and fellowship from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Queen Liliuokalani Children's Center, 46-316 Haiku Road, Kaneohe.
