Miyashiro to play volleyball at Washington

Kalani High outside hitter/setter Tamari Miyashiro has signed a letter of intent to play volleyball at the University of Washington this coming season.

The 5-foot-7 Miyashiro is a three-time Star-Bulletin All-State selection and was named the 2004 Gatorade Player of the Year in volleyball for Hawaii. She also was selected the Most Outstanding Player of last November's state tournament, where she helped the Lady Falcons to fifth place.

Washington advanced to its first final four last December, falling to eventual national champion Stanford.

NCAA summer hoops league seeks players

The NCAA College Summer Basketball League is seeking current college players to participate this summer.

Play begins June 23. Games are Thursdays and Saturdays at the Manoa Recreation Center.

Lawler to challenge Vitale in Super Brawl

Waipahu's Falaniko Vitale will fight UFC fighter "Ruthless" Robbie Lawler in the main event of Super Brawl on July 23 at Blaisdell Arena.

Lawler (8-3) was one of the elite middleweights in mixed martial arts until losing three of his last four fights. Vitale (20-3) is coming off a knockout of Masanori Suda seven weeks ago and has won five matches in a row.

Jason "Mayhem" Miller will take on Honolulu's Mark Moreno in the co-main event. Miller is unbeaten in Hawaii after defeating Egan Inoue and Ronald Jhun.

Rainbow baseball camps set at Murakami

Two Hawaii Rainbow Baseball Summer Camps are scheduled for next month at Les Murakami Stadium.

The camps, set for July 8-10 and 29-31, are open to players ages 7-18. The pitcher/catcher camp is from 9 a.m. to noon. The hitting camp is from 1 to 4 p.m.

The cost is $120 or $200 if registering for both camps. Registration is held between 8 and 9 a.m. the first day of camp.

Campers must provide own lunch and gear. For more information, call 956-6247.

Basketball camp to benefit ASSETS athletics

The Sole Fundamentals Basketball Camp will be held July 25-29 at Manoa Valley District Park Gym.

The camp is open to youths entering grades 4-12. The cost is $100, with a portion of proceeds to benefit the ASSETS school athletic department.

Participating coaches include are Wade Nakamura of Leland High School (Calif.), former UH player Kalia McGee, Maryknoll coach Blaine Gier, Hawaii Baptist coach Reid Takatsuka, and Chad Mizunaka and Ross Kinsler of Saint Andrew's.
