HOKU'S HOMECOMING: A lucky crowd got a special treat on Tuesday when Hoku Ho sat in with her father, entertainment legend Don Ho, at the Waikiki Beachcomber. Don had been entertaining the capacity crowd for more than two hours when Hoku came out to join him for a couple of songs and some storytelling. Don's account of his first meeting with his future son-in-law got a good laugh. Hoku's solo interpretation of "The Nearness of You" shows that she can sing romantic standards with the some feeling and commercial appeal she brought to the poppy recordings that put her on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles chart back in 2000.

HERE'S TO YOU, MRS. ROBINSON!: Patrice Scott celebrated with Allen Cole, left, and Justin Brossier at the opening-night post-show reception for "The Graduate" at Manoa Valley Theatre on Wednesday. Brossier stars as Benjamin Bradock, the highly dysfunctional protagonist of the story, with Scott as Mrs. Robinson, the predatory "older woman" who seduces and abuses him, and Cole as her husband. Ironically, Mr. Robinson is the one who tells Benjamin that he should "sow some wild oats" before settling down. It is odd to think of "The Graduate" as a har-de-har-har comedy, but that's what this MVT production turns out to be.

NOTHING CRUDDY HERE!: The Crud -- Justin Vinder, left, Ben Henry and Rob Petersen -- had plenty to celebrate at the CD release party for "Antidote," the band's first album, at the Wave Waikiki on Wednesday. The crowd applauded the new live arrangements of their music, and members of Missing Dave asked them for autographs.
