Four University of Hawaii track and field athletes placed in the top eight of their events yesterday in the NCAA West Regional Championships in Eugene, Ore.

Three of the UH athletes -- Kelly Young, Tasha Monroe and Meghan Weaver -- are in contention for at-large berths to the NCAA Championships.

Weaver placed eighth in the shot put with a throw of 49 feet, 3 1/2 inches.

Young took seventh in the 800 meters in 2 minutes, 8.58 seconds, and Monroe placed seventh in the 400 meters in 54.98.

In addition, Dana Buchanan finished ninth in the 1,500 meters in 4:27.10.

Another Rainbow Wahine athlete, Novelle Murray, just missed making the top eight in the discus with a throw of 155-4.
