COLLEGES

Sadler on Montana
AD short list

Hawaii associate athletic director Tom Sadler is among five finalists for athletic director at Montana.

"I'm flattered to be one of the finalists for the Montana job," Sadler said in a prepared statement. "But anything other than that should come from the University of Montana."

Montana officials announced yesterday Sadler and the other four candidates will be interviewed next month on campus.

The other finalists are Tom Collins, senior associate athletic director at Arizona State; Mike Marlow, associate athletic director at Oregon; Calli Sanders, senior associate athletic director at Iowa State; and Jim O'Day, director of development for Montana intercollegiate athletics.

More than 60 people applied to take over for Don Read, who is retiring July 1.

Sadler, UH's senior associate athletic director in charge of administrative services, has worked at UH since Feb. 3, 2003. He previously worked with current Hawaii athletic director Herman Frazier for 17 years at Arizona State.

His primary responsibility at UH is overseeing the internal, day-to-day operations of the athletic department, including ticketing and facilities management. He also supervises the men's volleyball, baseball, softball and cross country programs.

Sadler is a 1983 graduate of Aquinas College in Grand Rapids, Mich., where he earned a bachelor's degree in industrial/organizational psychology. Sadler also has a master's degree in public administration from Arizona State, which he earned in 1994. He is married and has two daughters.
