Man charged
in rape case

The victim describes an assault
in a car with her baby in back

A 39-year-old homeless man was charged yesterday with first-degree sexual assault and kidnapping for allegedly raping a female acquaintance at gunpoint inside his car, with her 7-month-old baby in the back seat.

The suspect, Paul Teo, had gone to the 20-year-old woman's Ewa Beach home, climbed onto her second-floor balcony and broke into her bedroom at 1 a.m. Friday, according to a police affidavit.

Teo then allegedly grabbed her and told her to get in his car.

Teo walked the woman, who was carrying her 7-month-old son, to his car and forced her inside, police said.

The woman told police that Teo, a family acquaintance, took her to an isolated location in Alewa Heights and parked the car.

He allegedly told her: "I need someone to pick on. Don't say a word!"

Teo pulled a black handgun from under the driver's seat and placed the barrel to her temple and warned her not to tell anyone, the affidavit said.

The police affidavit said the victim described Teo as being extremely irrational.

According to the affidavit, Teo raped the woman in the front seat of the car while the baby was in the back seat.

He then drove the woman to an unknown Halawa home. While Teo was momentarily outside the car, the victim grabbed her baby and escaped.

Police were tipped off that Teo was in Makiki and arrested him at 3 a.m. Sunday while in his car, which police said was used in the sexual assault.

Police also arrested Teo for two outstanding warrants.

Teo was charged with first-degree sexual assault and kidnapping Monday. Bail was set at $100,000. His preliminary hearing is set for tomorrow.
