Following registration, the session will begin at 9:15 a.m. at the Hawaii Institute of Geophysics 110, with keynote speaker Chris McKinney, author of "The Tattoo," "The Queen of Tears" and soon-to-be-released "Bolohead Row."

The second half of the day will feature four discussions, of which participants may choose two: "Dollars & Cents: Understanding the Monetary Costs and Rewards in Book Publishing," "A Book's Life: A Timeline of Your Book from Acquisition to Publication," "To Publish or Not to Publish: Selecting the Best Method to Publish Your Book" and "Staying Alive! How to Increase and Maintain Your Book's Sales After Its Release."

Tap happy feet

To celebrate the birthday of the patron saint of tap dancers, Bill "Bojangles" Robinson, 50 tappers from The Movement Center and Diamond Head Theatre will dance on Ala Moana's Centerstage in a free performance at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Tap comprises rhythmic sounds made by foot movements, generally emphasized by shoes fitted with metal taps to emphasize the beats.

Tap is an American dance form that combines Irish step dancing with African rhythms. In the early 1800s, a freed slave named Juba traveled Europe performing tap dance and by the mid-1800s minstrel shows became popular. As Vaudeville evolved, a variety of tap styles emerged, becoming codified and taught in dance schools from the mid-1900s.

The show will feature some of The Movement Center's youngest dancers, who love the noisy shoes, but benefit by learning counting and building coordination.
