HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL


Waiakea third for
second straight year

Kekoa Yockman struck out Marshall Kaohu Nishimura with the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh as Waiakea defeated Kamehameha 5-3 yesterday to finish third in the state baseball tournament for the second straight year.

Raymond Velez doubled and drove in two runs and Dustin Kaeo added two hits for the Warriors.

Four Waiakea pitchers combined to give up just five hits, with Brian Simeona picking up the win.

Troy Samura pitched the third inning and picked up the loss for Kamehameha.

Kekoa Lee gave up no earned runs in 4 2/3 innings of relief as the Menehunes defeated the Bears to take fifth.

Adam Arakawa was the only player in the game with two hits, and he also had two stolen bases.

The Bears scored three unearned runs off of four Moanalua errors.

The Menehunes' Donovan Souza doubled for the game's only extra-base hit.

Rein Nakamura hit a two-run homer and Cody Aquino doubled home two runs as Na Alii scored three in the top of the seventh inning to win. Bryant Katakura drove in two runs and Kory Valenzona had two hits for Pearl City.
