POUND'S BAND OF RENOWN: Pianist Clyde Pound, third from left, drew an overflow crowd for "Studio 6" at the Musicians Union on Tuesday. Sonya Mendez, second from left, and Anita Hall shared vocal duties. Darryl Pellegrini (drums), left, Billy Beamus (sax) and Brian Mattson (bass) completed the tight instrumental quartet. It was a rare opportunity for Honolulu jazz fans to catch Pound playing -- Keith Kashiwada, Wilma Chang and Charlotte Lum were among the lucky ones. Pound and Pellegrini join Les Peetz and Steve Jones for a free concert at the Honolulu Academy of Arts tonight.

KYRA BIDS US ALOHA 'OE: Kyra Poppler celebrated her upcoming move to Los Angeles with a party downtown at Mercury on Tuesday. Most of Poppler's female friends were no-shows but her male friends turned out in force to talk story over drinks and pupus. Sat Freedman, left, a friend since intermediate school, had some great stories to share. Gerard Elmore, right, a fellow actor, wished her well. Scott "Scott from Scotland" Ruddock and local filmmaker Jeff Katz arrived later. Katz praised her work in his next indie film.
