Kahului Boat Ramp
project set to begin

WAILUKU » State officials will hold a blessing at 8 a.m. Saturday to mark the start of construction of a $5 million improvement to the Kahului Boat Ramp used by recreational fishers and boaters.

The project, in the north section of the harbor and seaside of Kanaloa Avenue, includes dredging and the installation of two loading docks and a three-lane boat ramp.

The area now has one loading dock and a single boat ramp.

Dredging cost is being shared between the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the state Department of Land and Natural Resources.

The contractor Healy Tibbitts Builders, Inc. will begin dredging on May 20, and the work is expected to be completed by the end of November.

During the work, the ramp will be opened on a limited basis on weekends and on federal and state holidays.
