Hawaii's Andy Irons scored a near-perfect 19 points yesterday in winning his third-round heat over Hira Teriinatoofa of Tahiti in the Billabong Pro Tahiti at Teahupoo.

4 from Hawaii surf into fourth round

Four Hawaii surfers won their third-round heats yesterday in the Association of Surfing Professionals' Billabong Pro Tahiti at Teahupoo.

Three-time world champion Andy Irons and brother Bruce Irons along with Fred Patacchia and Kalani Robb advanced to the fourth round.

Kim leads Open qualifiers at Ko Olina

Kimberly Kim, a 13-year-old amateur from Pahoa, shot a 1-over 73 at Ko Olina Golf Club yesterday to lead four golfers advancing to sectional qualifying for the 2005 U.S. Women's Open Championship.

The sectional qualifier will also be held at Ko Olina, on June 13. The U.S. Women's Open is June 23-26 at Cherry Hills, Colo.

Waipahu's Kayla Morinaga, 17, and Honolulu professional Julie Brooks also qualified for the sectional by shooting 77s.

Australia's Katy Jarochowicz is the fourth sectional qualifier. She shot 78, tied with two others, and won a three-hole playoff.

Participants in the Run with a View, the second race of the 2005 H.U.R.T. Trail Series, started out last Saturday morning at Kaahele Neighborhood Park near Royal Summit in Aiea.




Sing Chow, Fujimoto make region second team

Hawaii-Hilo's Leo Sing Chow and Natalie Fujimoto earned NCAA Division II West Region second-team honors yesterday.

Sing Chow, the Vulcans' Female Athlete of the Year and Pacific West Conference Player of the Year, batted .405 with seven home runs and went 9-5 with a 1.90 ERA on the mound.

Fujimoto, a first-team PacWest Conference selection, batted .321 with five home runs.

UH soccer camp coming up in June and July

The upcoming University of Hawaii soccer camp runs in two sessions -- June 7-10 and July 19-22 -- from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the campus' grass soccer field.

In addition, a goalkeeper's camp is scheduled for June 14-17 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

UH coach Pinsoom Tenzing is the head instructor.

The camps are for boys and girls ages 6-13 and the fee is $150. For registration information, call 956-6330.
