Mark Farina
back in action

Veteran house DJ Mark Farina will play a couple of Hawaii dates this weekend as part of his Mushroom Jazz tour. Following a brief hiatus after performing in Ireland at the beginning of the month, he restarts his tour in Kihei, Maui, on Friday, and spins at the Wave Waikiki on Saturday.

Calling himself "a modern-day traveling minstrel," Farina released the fifth volume of his popular "Mushroom Jazz" mix series for Om Records back in March. Along with new and unreleased material, Farina contributed a new original track in "Cali Spaces." The compilation has Farina's signature layering of instrumental tracks with hip-hop and soul vocals, with a lot of weird samples from old vinyl records he's collected over the years.

Promoter G-Spot will be behind the decks as well on Saturday, along with DJs Ikon, Dawn, SovernT and others.

Pre-sale tickets for the 18-and-over show are available for $15 at www.groovetickets.com.
