Kim, Waiakea
lead state golf
Big Island Interscholastic Federation champion Christine Kim shot a 37-41--78 to take the individual lead, as well as stake Waiakea to the team lead in the first day of the David Ishii/HHSAA Girls Golf Championships at the Maui Lani Golf Course yesterday.
Waiakea's Amanda Wilson was tied for second with 79, along with Alyssa Fukuoka from Kamehameha and Janya Shimomura of Baldwin.
Nicole Aoki rounded out the Warriors' scoring with a 38-46--84, giving Waiakea a 241 total.
Waiakea is seeking its third girls state golf championship.
Roosevelt was in second, four strokes off the pace.
Interscholastic League of Honolulu champion Stephanie Kono of Punahou was two strokes behind Kim at 38-42--80, where she was tied with Roosevelt's Nancy Shon (39-41).
OIA champ and defending state champ Britney Choy from Leilehua shot 43-43--86.
