Cemeteries need 50,000
leis for Memorial Day

About 50,000 leis are needed to place on the graves at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific at Punchbowl and at all state veterans cemeteries for Memorial Day.

Leis can be dropped off May 27 at various community parks and fire stations on Oahu, the Park Permit Office in Honolulu and at Kapolei Hale, Room 309.

Loose plumeria flowers can also be donated at the same locations on Thursday, May 26.

All leis must be made of fresh flowers or ti leaves and must measure 20 to 24 inches before tying. All leis must be tied. Floral sprays such as ti leaf and anthurium bouquets are also welcome.

Leis and flowers can be dropped off at community parks between 9 and 11:30 a.m.:

» Ala Wai Community Park
» Halawa District Park
» Makua Alii Senior Center
» Waianae District Park
» Wahiawa District Park
» Waiau District Park
» Waipahu District Park
» Kaneohe Community and Senior Center
» Waikiki Community Center

Also at fire stations between 6 a.m. and noon:

» Kalihi Fire Station
» Waipahu Fire Station
» Waialua Fire Station
» Kaneohe Fire Station
» Kailua Fire Station
» Waimanalo Fire Station
» Hawaii Kai Fire Station

Lei and loose plumeria flowers can also be dropped off on May 26 and 27 between 8 a.m. and noon on the ground floor of the Honolulu Municipal Building at 650 S. King St.
