Lipsher lights up ACC

Allison Lipsher had a memorable season for the Duke Blue Devils. She was named to three all-freshman teams -- the Atlantic Coast Conference, Soccer Buzz Magazine's All-Southeastern Region team and as an honorable-mention All-American.

In 19 matches, the goalkeeper from Punahou fashioned a 1.18 goals-against average, had eight shutouts among her 10 wins and set a Duke record with 516 consecutive shutout minutes.

Marie Majkut scored three goals on 23 shots and had one assist for the 11-7-1 Washington & Jefferson College Presidents. The freshman striker from Punahou started eight of 18 matches. The NCAA Division III school is located in New Wilmington, Pa.

Soo Lee posted a 3-4 record with one shutout for the Southern Oregon Raiders of Ashland, Ore. The redshirt freshman goalie from Seabury Hall had a 2.08 goals-against average.

Stephanie Kashiwabara, a freshman midfielder from Kauai H.S., played in 13 matches for the Raiders. Kelcie Morita, also from Kauai, redshirted last fall.

Lisa Lerud, a freshman defender from Punahou, was in two matches for a total of 16 minutes for the 12-7-2 San Diego Toreros.

Hauanu Santiago scored the game-winner in Mesa State's 1-0 win over New Mexico Highlands on Oct. 29. It came at 15:34 and was the freshman midfielder/striker's only goal of the season. The Maui H.S. graduate started 19 of 20 matches and had one assist for the 5-13-2 Mavericks.

Shauna Tachibana played in all 19 matches for the 9-8-2 Pacific Lutheran Lutes. The freshman defender from Kauai H.S. came off the bench in the first four matches then finished the season by starting 15 consecutive matches. She did not take a shot and had no assists.

Jennifer Lau scored four goals and had one assist as a freshman for 7-10-0 Wellesley. The striker from Punahou saw action in 17 matches for the NCAA Division III school and put 15 of her 21 shots on goal.

The NCAA Division II Western Oregon Wolves made good use of two Hawaii freshmen, Amber Thronas (Kauai H.S.) and Aimee Watanabe (Castle). Thronas, a striker, started all 20 matches and took five shots without scoring for the 6-13-1 Wolves. Watanabe scored one goal on 26 shots (10 on goal) from her midfield position.

Ricky Shinn (Pearl City) saw action as a defender and midfielder in 13 matches for the Pacific (Ore.) Boxers, recording one goal and one assist.

Three freshmen -- defender Chris Domingo (Mid-Pacific) and midfielders Brent Murakami (Mililani) and Kenshiro Uki (Pearl City) -- began their college careers with the Whitworth College Pirates, a team that advanced to the second round of the NCAA Division II tournament.

Uki saw the most action, starting three of 10 matches and scoring one goal. Murakami managed one goal in eight matches and Domingo played in three matches.

Sophomore defender Brett Kagawa was in 15 matches, seven as a starter.

Nicky Harris netted a goal on one of her four shots for the Northern Colorado Bears, an NCAA Division II team that went 3-13-1. A freshman striker from Mililani, Harris played in 14 matches.
