Honolulu Waldorf School fifth-graders performed a "Maypole" dance, a custom practiced in England and Western Europe, to start the May Day festivities at the school yesterday afternoon.

The 2005 Waikiki SPAM Jam, presented by the Waikiki Improvement Association, was held yesterday along Kalakaua Avenue. The event featured entertainment by local artists, food booths with Spam-themed dishes, games and a Mr. and Ms. Spam Contest. Joji Dettor, above, showed his winning form at the start of the Spam eating contest, which he won. Hawaii leads the nation in per-capita Spam consumption.
