The Bloomberg / Star-Bulletin Index is a price-weighted index designed to measure the performance of Hawaii-based companies. The index was developed with a base value of 100 as of December 31, 1999. A chart of the index which shows the weekly performance of its members is published weekly in the Honolulu Star-Bulletin.


Barnwell seesaws

Barnwell Industries Inc., riding a roller coaster that saw its stock fall more than $8 on Thursday, rose $10.50 in the final 3 1/2 hours yesterday to close the week up 7.3 percent and lead the Bloomberg Honolulu Star-Bulletin index. The company, which has oil and gas operations in Canada, increased its index-leading gain for the year to 77.3 percent.

The only other local company up for the year is ML Macadamia Orchards LP with a 5.7 percent gain. ML Macadamia fell 3.3 percent this week. Bank of Hawaii Corp. had the week's second-best performance with a 7 percent gain.
