The Bloomberg / Star-Bulletin Index is a price-weighted index designed to measure the performance of Hawaii-based companies. The index was developed with a base value of 100 as of December 31, 1999. A chart of the index which shows the weekly performance of its members is published weekly in the Honolulu Star-Bulletin.


Barnwell is king

Barnwell Industries Inc., defying a down year in the stock market, rose 8 percent this week to an all-time high of $61.30 in outperforming local companies in the Bloomberg Honolulu Star-Bulletin index. The Honolulu-based oil and gas exploration company, which also has real estate holdings on the Big Island, is up an index-leading 65.4 percent this year.

Alexander & Baldwin Inc., which reports first-quarter earnings next week, rose 4.1 percent to $39.20 while Central Pacific Financial Corp., which also releases earnings next week, gained 2.2 percent to $31.90.
