Spartans spread it around
against Warriors

According to coach Bobby Samson, Maryknoll is at its best when its leading scorers are all balanced.

The Spartans must have been pretty good last night.

Four Spartans scored in double figures as Maryknoll held Kamehameha without a field goal in the second quarter en route to a 54-32 victory over the Warriors last night at Kekuhaupio Gym.

Seniors Jessica Akamine and Tammie Andres, along with sophomore Nicole Fu scored 12 points apiece, while Cheryl Lee added 11 as the Spartans remained within two games of Punahou for the ILH lead.

Freshman Rhani Kaneaiakala scored a team-high 11 points for the Warriors, who fell to a disappointing 1-5 in league play.

After a sloppy opening 8 minutes in which three total points were scored by both teams, Charmaine Jackson scored all 10 of her points in the second quarter to help the Hurricanes remain one game behind Radford for the division lead.

Tricia Warashina added 10 of her game-high 15 in the fourth quarter to lead the Hurricanes. Everly San Agustin was the only Sabers player in double figures with 10 points.

Four Mules scored in double figures, including Brittaney Stafford, who had 11 of her game-high 14 in the second half as Leilehua outscored the Chargers 22-7 in the final quarter to secure the victory.

Crystal Tadeo and Tiffany Manning each had 10 points for the Chargers, who held a 23-20 lead at halftime.

But the Mules had better scoring balance as Ui Forgione added 12 points and Isis Atualevao and Marquesha McVea each poured in 10.

The Chargers nailed five 3-pointers, with Tadeo and Jazmin Pahukoa-Malia each hitting two.
