CRIB NOTES

Coffee for your garden

Wake up and smell the coffee -- it's Earth Month, time to remind ourselves that everyone needs to pitch in and do his or her share for the environment every day.

Caffeine addicts can give themselves a pat on the back when picking up on Starbucks' latest offer. This month, selected Starbucks stores in Hawaii are offering free used coffee grounds, which are great for gardens and composting.

The used grounds are sealed in recycled 5-pound bags and come with a brochure explaining how they can be used in your garden. (Apparently they are great for keeping slugs away!)

The Grounds for Your Garden program continues to the end of the month. One more recommendation: Walk or bike, don't drive, to your nearest participating Starbucks.
