2 scholarships offered
for civics program

The Organization of Chinese Americans-Hawaii Chapter is offering two scholarships for high school students who have an interest in public affairs to attend the Presidential Classroom Scholars Program in Washington, D.C.

The Presidential Classroom Scholars Program is a one-week experience that involves the students in political seminars, a mentorship caucus, discussion forums, issue report development and Capitol Hill visits, according to the group.

Program offerings include "National Security in a Democracy," "Science, Technology & Public Policy," "Global Business & Public Policy," "Law & Justice in a Democracy," "Media & Democracy" and the Future World Leaders Summit.

Each recipient will be awarded a $2,000 scholarship to be used for tuition and boarding expenses.

To qualify, candidates must have a B average or higher, or rank in the top 25 percent of their class, demonstrate involvement in co-curricular activities and return a completed application, postmarked no later than Monday, to Debbie Lau Okamura, 2100 Date St., Suite 2504, Honolulu 96826.
