The New Year Songkran Festival, a tradition in Thailand, was held Saturday at Kapiolani Park Bandstand. Songkran, meaning "to relocate," refers to the sun's shifting position in the zodiac. Here, Wayne Drowns paid his respects to elders Daenviene Sisomvant and Bouphiang Ponkeo. Earlier, he splashed water on the palms of Buddhist monks and elders, a symbolic washing away of bad luck.
