Rainbow Wahine warm up in all-comers meet

The University of Hawaii track and field team warmed up for an upcoming road trip with its seventh all-comers meet of the season last weekend at Cooke Field.

Junior Tasha Monroe and sophomore Kelly Young posted lifetime bests in the 400-meter run, with Monroe (56.46) edging Young (57.37).

Young also made her 400-meter hurdle debut and earned the Western Athletic Conference's season-best time of 1:02.29.

Monroe won the 100-meter dash in 12.04.

Three other Rainbow Wahine athletes earned event victories -- Paula Gauthier (pole vault), Novelle Murray (discus, hammer throw) and Meghan Waver (shot put).

UH's 12-day road trip starts this weekend at UCLA's Rafer Johnson Invitational.

Vulcans capture consolation tennis title

Hawaii-Hilo won the Zenia Anastasiadou Memorial Tournament consolation championship yesterday with a 7-2 victory over Grand Canyon in college women's tennis in Pomona, Calif.

The Vulcans got singles victories from Tiana Lum-Tucker, Wendy Owen and Sayaka Fukumoto to sew up the match.

Hawaii-Hilo also beat Cal Poly Pomona 7-2 in the consolation semifinals.

» The University of Hawaii snapped a four-match losing streak with a 6-1 women's tennis victory over Idaho State yesterday in Pocatello, Idaho.

The Rainbow Wahine (6-13) won five of six singles matches and all three doubles matches for the doubles point.

Hawaii's Lauren Fitzgerald, Justine Boutet, Paige Mainor and Kimberly Curtis were victorious in both singles and doubles.

» Top-ranked Brigham Young-Hawaii won a 9-0 women's tennis match over Ouachita Baptist in Pensacola, Fla., for its 119th straight win.

Petra Teller, Tetyana Bula and Gurianna Korinihona all scored 6-0, 6-0 victories in singles.

» In men's tennis, BYUH lost 5-1 to St. Edward's in Pensacola, Fla. Jacob Huza won in singles for the Seasiders' only victory.

Brigham Young-Hawaii earns golf victory

Brigham Young-Hawaii defeated Hawaii Pacific in women's golf yesterday for the first victory in the program's history.

The Seasiders' Christa Schneiber claimed medalist honors with an 86 at Turtle Bay's Fazio course.

» Hawaii is in third place with a two-round total of 594 in the Bite/Pacific Intercollegiate golf tournament at Lompoc, Calif.

The Warriors' Jarett Hamamoto and Travis Toyama are tied for 13th with two-round totals of 148, six shots behind Washington State's David Fern, who is at 2-under-par 142.

UH is six strokes behind UC Davis, which leads the field at 588.
