Ex-pat Kikaida-heads
living in the Bay Area
can wax nostalgic

HAWAII ex-pats around San Francisco can soon reconnect with a TV show they'd rush home from school to watch in their hanabata days.

Businesswoman Joanne Ninomiya, who owns rights to the campy, Japanese action hero series "Kikaida," is exporting the show to KTSF-TV in the City by the Bay.

"It's an Asian channel," she said. It will air at midnight Saturdays starting April 16.

Former Verizon Hawaii spokesman Keith Kamisugi, who now lives in San Francisco, has fond and vivid memories of the show.

"I still like jump off sumtin' tall and double-chop sumbody," he wrote in an e-mail.

Old branding new again

Viewers of the Merrie Monarch Festival on KITV starting tonight will see and hear an updated version of the station's familiar "Island Television" jingle.

Composed by Pierre Grill and performed by Willie K, it is being relaunched after being reworked by Pali, a local band recruited by KITV Creative Services Director Marty Schlesinger. Pali will be seen and heard in a 10-second station identification message. Other artists may audition to perform by sending a CD or DVD to Schlesinger at 801 S. King St., Honolulu, HI 96813.
