Matsumoto’s gem
leads Kailua to victory

Kevin Matsumoto fired a one-hitter, coming within one out of a perfect game, as Kailua defeated Castle 8-1 yesterday at the Surfriders field to improve to 2-0 in Oahu Interscholastic Association East action.

The game was a makeup from Saturday's rainout. Matsumoto, who struck out seven, was in the top of the sixth with two outs recorded when Castle's Ikaika Reppuhn cracked a solo homer over the fence in right-center.

Landon Kaaua went 3-for-3 with a first-inning solo home run, and the Cougars added eight more runs in the second inning.

Devin Okinaga threw a two-hitter for Kaiser, which improved to 2-0 in league play (10-10 overall). The game was another makeup from Saturday's rainouts.
