Vulcans' Jackson is PacWest Player of Week

Hawaii-Hilo's Lisa Jackson was named the Pacific West Conference Player of the Week after batting .714 to lead the Vulcans to a softball doubleheader sweep of Chaminade.

Jackson was 5-for-7 at the plate with two singles, a double and two home runs. She also drove in six runs and scored four times.

Jackson is ninth in the league in batting with a .380 average.

» Theresa Campbell, Cami Rainey and Layne Pavey had two hits each to lead Montana State-Billings to a 4-3 victory over Brigham Young-Hawaii yesterday in the first game of a softball doubleheader at Laie.

Amanda Nino had two hits for the Seasiders in the loss.

In the second game, Nino had two hits and two RBIs in a 10-3 defeat, while Campbell sparked the Yellowjackets with two hits and four RBIs.

Rainbow Wahine banquet is April 21

The University of Hawaii women's basketball team is gathering for its annual season-ending banquet April 21 at the Queen Kapiolani Hotel.

The banquet begins with no-host cocktails at 5 p.m., with dinner at 6 and the program to follow.

Tickets are $35 and can be purchased by calling Bobbie Omoto or Erika Nash at 956-6501.

The team finished 11-15 under first-year coach Jim Bolla.

Lewis picked for Volvo Ocean Race

LaSalle Bank, with headquarters in Chicago, chose Honolulu's Andrew Lewis as a crew member to compete in the Volvo Ocean Race 2005/06.

Lewis was chosen from thousands of applicants to form an international crew for the around-the-world race under the banner of ABN AMRO, the parent company of LaSalle Bank.

Brigham Young Hawaii streak up to 114

Brigham Young-Hawaii beat Clark Atlanta 9-0 and Fort Valley State 9-0 on Saturday in Atlanta to increase its NCAA-record winning streak to 114 women's tennis matches.

The Seasiders didn't lose a game in any of the singles and doubles matches against Clark Atlanta.

Tetyana Bula, Crystal Schwenke and Jing Jing Liu all won two singles and two doubles matches for BYUH in the matches.

» The Seasiders men's team beat Morehouse College 5-0 and Fort Valley State 9-0 on Saturday.

BYUH got two singles and one doubles victory from four of its players in the two wins -- Dorian Porada, Junyoung Kim, Jakub Huza and Leon So'onalole.

Lavaman triathlon is April 2-3 on Big Island

Entries are being accepted for the eighth annual Lavaman Triathlon, to be held April 2-3 at the Waikoloa Beach Resort.

The course includes a looped 1.5-kilometer open ocean swim, a 40K bike along Queen Kaahumanu Highway and a 10K run along many types of terrain.

Neider is medalist, but Seasiders place second

Brigham Young-Hawaii's Mark Neider shot a 3-under-par 69 for medalist honors in a three-team golf match at Leilehua Golf Club yesterday.

The Seasiders finished second, behind Hawaii Pacific and ahead of Chaminade.
