Wang takes third in platform dive

Hawaii diver Rui Wang finished in third place yesterday in the platform dive at the NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships at West Lafayette, Ind.

Wang scored 466.15 points, trailing Cassandra Cardinell (501.45) and Anna Keiss (478.95) of Houston. Fellow Rainbow Wahine QuingJie Huang was 18th with 365 points. Huang, who won a national championship in the 3-meter springboard earlier in the event, placed 13th among all competitors with 35 points.

Hawaii freshman Melanie Schlanger finished in 15th place in the 100 freestyle.

The Rainbow Wahine finished 16th overall as a team in a field of 39, while Georgia won the overall title.

Vulcans' Rodriguez no-hits Cougars

Hawaii-Hilo pitcher Britni Rodriguez did not allow any of the 16 batters she faced to reach base via a hit yesterday, helping the Vulcans to a 16-0 win in the first game of a doubleheader against Minnesota Morris.

Hawaii-Hilo won the second game 23-0 behind pitcher Miki Asamura and an unstoppable offense. Both games ended by TKO.

Meghan Jost led the Vulcans at the plate, going 7-for-9 with a pair of home runs in the two games against the Cougars.

Hawaii-Hilo captures second baseball game

Hawaii-Hilo pitcher John Pinasco held California to three hits and the Vulcans beat the Bears at Wong stadium to earn their second win of the season.

Sean Tamura paired hits and drove in a run for the Vulcans (2-30). The Bears dropped to 16-9.

Hawaii beats Canada in water polo exhibition

Iefke Van Belkum scorched Team Canada for four goals and Beth Novick added a hat trick as the Hawaii water polo team earned a 9-6 exhibition victory yesterday at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex.

Canada's roster features five Olympians, including former Rainbow Wahine Marie-Luc Arpin.
