Outrigger to manage new resort in Bali

Outrigger Hotels & Resorts has been selected to manage a new 98-suite beachfront resort in Bali, Indonesia, the company's first property in Southeast Asia.

Outrigger said it has an agreement with Indonesian developer PT Ocean Permata to manage the $35 million Outrigger Bali, which is scheduled to open next year on 2.5 acres.

The resort island of Bali was rocked by bombings in 2002 that killed 202 people. Outrigger said the visitor industry there is improving, evidenced by increased airline capacity and the reopening of a tourism office for Sydney, Australia.

Plant biologists book convention

Free rent at the Hawaii Convention Center has attracted a booking from the American Society of Plant Biologists, which plans to bring 2,000 attendees to the state in 2009.

The group previously met at the center in 2003. The estimated impact of its next meeting is $6.3 million, the convention center said.

The center has been offering free rent at the center to members of the Professional Convention Management Association who book events through 2010. The offer ended Jan. 31.

Japan Airlines to cut 1,400 jobs

TOKYO » Japan Airlines Corp., the country's biggest carrier, said yesterday it will cut 1,400 more jobs through attrition and trim other costs to remain competitive against regional rivals.

JAL wants to slash $721 million in costs by the end of fiscal 2007, and eventually make annual savings of $961.54 million.

He will oversee management of a portfolio of corporate banking relationships. Tony J. Mizuno has been hired as the company's commercial real estate loan division vice president and commercial real estate loan officer. He most recently served as the Certified Group CEO. Orest V. Saikevych has been hired as the company's asset management group vice president and portfolio manager. He will be responsible for managing the Pacific capital value fund.
