Judge recovers after bodysurfing accident

Honolulu Family Court Judge Kenneth Enright is undergoing rehabilitation after sustaining neck trauma in a bodysurfing accident on Feb. 20.

Enright, 56, who was retained to a second six-year term in February 2003, was vacationing with his wife on Lanai when the accident occurred.

"He and his wife have high hopes for a good recovery and especially conveys his gratitude to the Lanai medical, firefighters and police crews who helped, as well as the Oahu medical team," state Judiciary spokeswoman Marsha Kitagawa said yesterday. "He also thanks everyone for their prayers and support."

Enright's prognosis is good, Kitagawa said. "We certainly hope for a speedy recovery."

Enright, currently lead judge for the juvenile division, was appointed to the bench in February 1997.

Police were looking for a man who robbed a homeless man at gunpoint Sunday night.

Police said the victim, 28, was cooking dinner with his girlfriend in the University area at about 11:30 p.m. when he noticed a man walking away from them. He then noticed that his backpack was missing, police said.

The victim then confronted the other man, who turned and warned the victim to "step back," police said. The victim then noticed that the suspect was holding a gray pistol in his left hand, police said.

The suspect then fled. No one was hurt.
