High schoolers graduate
to an adult stage production

THE St. Louis Players' production of "Aida," directed by Kyle Kakuno, was great Sunday. It's hard to believe that all the performers, except for Castle High School graduate Mahi'ai Kekumu, are only in high school. Tani Lynn Fujimoto opened and closed the musical with a solid execution of "Every Story is a Love Story" and the rest of the cast -- Leihoku Pedersen Ellsworth (Aida), Kekumu (Radames), Adam Cho (Mereb) and John Long (Zoser) were also superb. The cast was invited to represent Hawaii in Scotland's Edinburgh Fringe Festival in August. Catch the performance while you can this weekend at Mamiya Theatre. Call 739-4862 or 550-8457 for tickets. For those who want to assist with trip expenses, contributions are being taken at 739-4862. ... I'm a huge fan of ABC's "Whose Line is it Anyway?" where the stars' ability to improvise scenes so quickly always amazes me. The improvisational troupe On the Spot brings the "Whose Line ..." concept to The ARTS at Marks Garage, where their attempts to bring audience suggestions to life gets everyone laughing. I can't wait to see their show this weekend, when the group challenges Loose Screws, another long-standing local improv troupe, Friday and Saturday. Interested in attending? Call 521-2903. ...

There are a lot of women out there who love a man in uniform. Well, get your checkbooks out, three firemen will be up for bid at the Firefighter Date Auction Saturday at the Honolulu Club. The Roman-themed benefit for the Make a Wish foundation will be catered by Sam Choy and entertainment will be provided by Anita Hall and Nueva Vida. But let's get back to the hunks. Matt Belluomi, 28, loves the water, but also loves running, golfing and cooking. Jake Saber, 26, has hazel eyes and enjoys biking and hiking. And, Kamaki Worthington, 34, also likes to be in the kitchen and cooks for his parents once a week. Winners will be able to dine with their firefighter at Sam Choy's, Palomino, Ryan's or Kincaids. Tickets are $35. Call 543-3970. ... Tiki's Grill & Bar is reintroducing its "Hats Off" fundraiser. A portion of proceeds from tomorrow's meals will go to Hawaii Red Cross. PBS Hawaii members get lucky at Tiki's as well. Show your PBS MemberCard when ordering to take advantage of a "Buy One, Get One Free" lunch entrée promotion. For information, call 973-2222.
