Seniors set to star
in series

"The Silent Majority: Lessons From Hawaii's Seniors" will debut at 5:30 p.m. Sunday on KHON2.

The series, featuring 18 extraordinary people, ages 60-plus, will air for 12 Sundays.

Seniors being profiled in the first episode are:

» Espy Garcia, a talented cook and storyteller, who grew up on a sugar plantation on Kauai. She now gives tours at Hawaii Plantation Village.

» Aki Yama, a legendary beach boy who's still combing the sands teaching tourists how to surf.

» Kapuna Butch Richards, who shares his knowledge of native plants with school kids.

Each senior will share stories of old Hawaii, give their view of Hawaii today and offer words of wisdom to the younger generation.

The show's host is Lt. Gen. Hank Stackpole, who served in the U.S. Marine Corps for 36 years.

The show also features former Miss Hawaii Traci Toguchi, who will report each week on the bond between seniors and Hawaii's keiki.

There's also a segment called "Helping the Family," which focuses on financial concerns of Baby Boomers caring for their elders.

The series was created by former KHNL news sirector Seth Feldman, who now runs Show Doctor Media and Marketing.
