Seasiders close regular season with win

The Brigham Young-Hawaii basketball team closed its PacWest season with a 104-102 win over Chaminade last night at the Cannon Activities Center in Laie.

The Seasiders (16-8, 11-4 PacWest) will have to hope they gain a spot in the regional poll to gain a berth in the NCAA Tournament. Chaminade dropped to 15-11 and 8-7.

Jake Chrisman led the Seasiders with 32 points. Chris Reaves led the Silverswords with 25 points.

Shockers hand Vulcans their 18th loss

Wichita State starter Mike Pelfrey allowed two hits through eight innings to lead the Shockers past Hawaii-Hilo 4-1 yesterday in college baseball at Simmons Field in Kona.

Pelfrey struck out six and gave way to Damon Sublett, who didn't allow a hit in the ninth.

Chris Campbell and David Chu had the lone hits for the Vulcans.

Hawaii golfers in 12th place at Burns golf

The Hawaii men's golf team is in 12th place at the John Burns Intercollegiate with a a 36-hole total of 575 yesterday at Leilehua Golf Course.

New Mexico moved into the lead with a 549 after shooting 275 yesterday, followed by Arizona at 553.

Three golfers -- New Mexico's Spencer Lavin, UNLV's Ryan Moore and SMU's Will Dodson -- are in a three-way tie atop the individual leaderboard at 12-under 132.

Pierre-Henri Soero is Hawaii's top golfer heading into today's final round. He's at 6-under 138.

Hawaii wins 3 of 5 events in WAC meet

The University of Hawaii won three of five events on the second day of the Western Athletic Conference Women's Swimming and Diving Championships, but SMU's depth enabled the Mustangs to take a lead in the team standings.

Nicole Mackey (400 individual medley, 1:58.90), Dena Quick (50 free, 22.58) and Qiong-Jie Huang (1-meter diving, 323.90) were Hawaii's individual winners.

SMU leads with 332 points, followed by the Wahine with 256.

UCLA stops Hawaii in water polo

Kelly Rulon scored four goals for No. 1 UCLA in a 13-8 college water polo victory over No. 9 Hawaii yesterday.

Iefke Van Belkum scored three goals to lead the Wahine.
