G-Dog starts rolling
at Sam Choy’s

IT DIDN'T take very long for the Stone Groove Family to rebound from Friday nights at the Hard Rock Cafe.

While the weekly "Five Dolla Pitchers and Rubba Slippas" party was no doubt a success, it was put down after an eight-month run following co-promoter Russ Inouye's birthday bash two weeks ago and a performance by Natural Vibrations last Friday.

Tonight, Stone Groove's G-Dog sets up shop at Sam Choy's Diamond Head with DJs Delve and Zack Morse for the debut of "Bitchen Kitchen." Doors open at 10 p.m. for this new 23-and-over weekly.

And while Valentine's Day might have already passed, take that special someone to Sam Choy's tonight and you can feed them strawberries dipped in Godiva chocolate from a fountain that will be set up in the restaurant ...

SPEAKING OF the Hard Rock, take a trip to Waikiki on Saturday night for "Ras Bird and Jah Gumby's Aquarian Birthday Party," hosted by Ghetto Circus.

The entertainment at this party is no joke, so you're going to want to get there early. Kamau is scheduled to open things up, followed by Emirc with DJs E.Q. and Syze-1 and finishing up with a set by Ooklah the Moc.

Along with the bands, Mike Ledger will be in the house to do a live painting, and members of the Shakti Dance Troupe will also perform. Cover for this 21-and-over party is $10 after 10 p.m. Call 955-7383 ...

METAL FANS have a big weekend coming up. San Francisco's Arsinic is in town, and will play shows at Pink Cadillac on Friday night at the Wave Waikiki on Sunday night with local thrashers 8MM Overdose.

Along with the bands, Sunday's gig at the Wave will also serve as a DVD release party for "Metal Mulisha -- World Domination Vol. 1." It will screen at the club from 10 to 11 p.m. and from midnight to 1 a.m.

Want to hear more local rock? Head back to Pink Cadillac on Saturday for an all-ages show with El Enemigo, Extra Stout and Lucky 65 from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. Call 272-1858 for more info ...

SATURDAY NIGHT'S "Music for the People" weekly at the Buddha Bar will mix things up a bit this week. Kasi "Rebel Girl" Nunes' band X-Factor will perform live ...

AND SINCE Monday is a holiday, you've got a chance to stay out and party on a Sunday night for a change.

Over at Pipeline Cafe, get a jumpstart on summer with an 18-and-over "Winter Beach Blast" at the club. Doors open at 10 p.m. and the night will feature a "Mr. Muscle Contest" and a bikini contest with a $1,000 cash prize.

Cover for this one is $7 if you're over 21, $10 if you're not. Call 479-6004 ...
