The Korean American Association of Hawaii raised more than $30,000 for tsunami disaster relief during a two-week period that ended Tuesday.

The funds were donated to the American Red Cross Hawaii State Chapter for its work in 11 countries devastated by tsunamis Dec. 26.

Members from the Waianae community donated a check for nearly $16,000. The Arc of Safety Church collected $10,000, while the Makaha Resort Golf Club collected more than $5,000 during a benefit held at the resort.

So far, the American Red Cross has collected more than $1 million from Hawaii to help tsunami victims.

"We're still getting several calls a day from people wanting to organize events," said Chief Executive Officer Coralie Matayoshi.
