Heart health

Dr. John Kristofich, a cardiologist at Straub Medical Center, will speak on "Preventing Heart Disease" at Saturday's meeting of the Vegetarian Society of Hawaii.

In recognition American Heart Month, Kristofich will describe the latest research on cardiovascular disease and explain how to reduce risk through diet, weight control and exercise. He also will talk about chronic stress.

The group will meet at 7 p.m. at McCoy Pavilion, Ala Moana Beach Park. Admission is free. Call 944-8344 or visit the Web site, www.VSH.org.

Win a Spam crown

How much do you love Spam? Enough to rule as Mr. or Ms. Spam Hawaii?

Come up with a concept for a Spam commercial and compete to win a can of Spam a day for a year and $1,000.

The five finalists' entries will be posted at the Web site, www.hawaiian105.com, where the public will choose a favorite. The winner will be crowned at the Waikiki Spam Jam on April 30.

To enter, e-mail a photograph of yourself with at least one can of Spam and a 200-word essay outlining your commercial idea to SPAMHawaii@fleishman.com.

Or mail a 90- to 120-second video of your commercial concept, along with a photo and essay, to Mr./Ms. SPAM! Contest, Fleishman-Hillard Inc., 225 South 6th St., Suite 5350, Minneapolis, MN 55402. Deadline to enter is March 13.
