In Askim, which is situated between the Swedish border and the capital city of Oslo, Norway, is Hawaii Sol Studio ("sol" in Norwegian means "sun"). "It is easy to understand why they have chosen the name Hawaii, where there is a lot more sunshine than in Norway," said Torbjorn Greipsland, pictured. Greipsland is a frequent visitor to the islands and the author of a new book in Norwegian and English titled "Aloha from Forgotten Norwegians in Hawaii: From Life in Slavery to Life in a Vacation Paradise." "I have been in Hawaii Sol Studio several times to get some color before going to the strong sunshine in Waikiki," he said.

Glenn Woo, at right, a part-time resident of Hawaii and Latvia, ran across Hawaii Express in Riga, Latvia. The owner has been to Hawaii to windsurf, and he named his sporting goods company from that relationship.

"The Search for Signs of Hawaiian Life in the Universe" is just that: We're looking for evidence of Hawaiiana everywhere but Hawaii.
