Mardi Gras magic

Dixie Grill has begun its celebration of Mardi Gras with New Orleans-inspired specials on the menu through Feb. 8.

Chef David Saccomanno has added Louisiana Crawfish, Shrimp Etouffee, Cajun Sausage Skewers, Jabalaya and French Market Onion Soup to the menu, along with the Muffuleta, a sandwich with salami, ham, mortadella and cheese. Daily specials:

Mondays: Louisiana Gumbo Pot Pie

Tuesdays: Fat Tuesday Po'Boys with fried oysters, catfish or shrimp

Wednesdays: Half-price mai tais and Dixie Hurricanes

Thursday: Louisiana lump crab cakes

Fridays: N'awlins Crab-Stuffed Blackened Ahi

Saturdays: Oyster Bar opens at 3 p.m. with raw and grilled oysters, shooters and the Peacemaker, fried oysters and tiger shrimp

Sundays: Trout Pontchartrain

Wining and dining

Indigo Eurasian Cuisine: Tuesday's 6 p.m. meeting of the Wrath of Grapes wine club is themed "European Vacation." Philana Bouvier of Coastal Wines and Spirits will lead a tour of France, from Champagne to Bordeaux. Cost is $20, which includes pupus. Call 521-2900.

Hanohano Room: A new five-course wine-pairing dinner will be held on the third Thursday of each month. Cost is $80. The dinners are an extension of Wine View tastings held at 6:30 p.m. on first Thursdays. The next Wine View, Feb. 3, is themed "Going to the South of France." Cost is $35. Call 922-4422.

The prize: A gift certificate for a cooking class at Kapiolani Community College goes to the best entry. New cookbooks go to runners-up.
